I hope there will be another update. Is this a helpfull reason for you? So because the wicd interface didn't have wlan0 in the preferences, things like ifup and dhclient, etc. That seems so odd. If wlan0 is not in interfaces ifupdown will not know about it and wicd can be in charge of it. And I was trying for a while to do ifupdownconfig stuff while wlan0 was in I'm happy my wlan is up and I like and am fine with wicd-curses, but I sure would like to know how to understand this a bit more.
