Limited setup perameters - unable to designate drive settings, forces you to raid all drives either 0,1,5 array. LOUD - 4 drives and a very loud fan make it very irritating to lisen to while running. No sleep mode - Drives are always on and spinning. NAS does not go into a sleep mode when not in use. I may not access the unit for a week, but all the while drives are still spinning. Poor interface - very weak and limited setup utility.

None of my media servers will map to this unit, I never had any problems with other NAS units. I can't believe how loud this thing is, and the fact that it is always on bothers me.

I am also annoyed by the fact that you have no control over what the unit does with your drives. You HAVE to use same drive size and models. Depending on the number of drives installed, it raids them accordingly. It does wnat it wants to do and that is what you get. You can't create different drives or partitions. Cons: Very very slow. Poorly designed, closed, buggy and unmaintained software. Administrative UI designed by somebody on acid. Supposedly runs Linux, but no shell access and no way to load your own passwd files.

Recent software update improved nothing. Essentially useless. I quickly gave up any hope of replacing my self-built Linux RAID server with this thing and relegated it to taking occasional backups. But it's not even usable for that. I would have been happy just with NFS, the simplest network file protocol and the hardest to screw up. But it can't even do NFS properly. Mounts randomly fail on permissions; who knows why? Promise touts its hardware RAID controller, but don't be fooled.

Linux software RAID on a commodity server chassis is FAR faster, and it's open, accessible and customizable unlike this piece of garbage. Pros: This is the first review for a product I have bought. I am system builder and have been in the business for well over a decade. It is a fantastic product. This has sat in my 'closest' for over a year. This unit does that. For the type of people buying this you should be smart enough to know nothing is produced with every conceivable scenario resolved.

This company does respond, does address issues and does update and improve it's products. Overall Review: if you have no real idea what a NAS is, go buy a USB back up drive from Maxtor or LaCie, if you have serious data and need as close to bullet proof as you can get, this is a great unit.

If you want a ton of storage with excellent data redundancy and are willing to spend a bit of time and dont want to spend triple the price. This is your item. Pros: 1. Also, from an aesthetic stand point, doesn't look too bad. People mentioned bad customer service but I honestly had no complaints to give.

Spoke to a gentlemen named Roland and he was friendly and eager to help. Light and simple web interface. Manufacture will address future issues with firmware and software updates. Cons: 1. As it has been mentioned before, it is rather noisy I am fortunate enough that in my home theater set up, I can tuck it away in my entertainment center. The plastic exterior has its pros and cons. One pro it is light weight and with 4 drives in it, it will tend to get heavy.

The con to a plastic case is a "cheaper" feel to it.. In order to get an new updated one, you will have to ship your current one back in and configure it again. Overall Review: If you haven't bought it yet, I would wait till after the "upgraded" one is released..

If you have already bought it, call their customer service and ask for Billy H yes, he is actually a real person. He is more than willing to right a wrong.

The only reason I give 4 out of 5 eggs due to the fact they did release a product and then acknowledge it had some flaws shortly after. It is rather of an inconvenience to deal with that. Other than that, it is a works as advertised quite well. Pros: I would like to take a moment to clarify comments regarding the NSN but first I would like to thank everyone who has purchased the product regardless of how you currently feel , we appreciate your business, seriously!

One reason is to control vibration, metal chassis requires design to keep vibration under control.
