Argosy 1.5tb hdd media player
Definitely plays more than they claim. Great product! Makes perfect sense for anyone looking to store their multimedia. Haven't used the ethernet connection yet so can't comment on that. Overall Review: The ability to jump to the end of the list or page down at least would be a nice software update.. Cons: -No search function of which I am aware -Unable to edit the music playlist while it's playing -Unable to skip to next song while playlist is playing. Overall Review: I have about movies and 20, songs installed on this player, and I wish there was a search function to find a movie faster.
As it is, I have to scroll through every movie in order to get to the one I want, and it can get pretty tedious after a while. However, both music and movies play flawlessly, and that's the most important thing. I have yet to use the internet browsing function on the player. Overall, this media player is great given that it comes with a pre-installed HDD and I have not experienced any trouble with it yet.
Pros: This thing is awesome! I've loaded it up about a 3rd of the way and am still looking for files to fill it up with. One of the best things about this media player is all I have to do is unhook the HDMI and power then grab the remote and I can bring my entire media collection with me to a friend's house. The blue light on the front isn't as bright at the one on the front of my Calvary external HD so it doesn't bother me that much.
It's been about a month since it's given me an issue and I'm hoping it doesn't happen again. Overall Review: As large as my media collection is I've only ran into about a dozen or so unprotected wmv files that wouldn't play but after a quick conversion to avi they worked perfectly. This may sound like a pity complaint, but the light is quite bright, and mounted under my TV, and I'm not using it, it is very distracting.
I have something to put in front of it, but that defeats the purpose of the remote. Overall Review: The firmware that came on it was from April, and there was an update in August, so I'm hopeful that more features will be added in the next version, as there was in the August update. Pros: Has played every file format I have thrown to it.
Can stream media files from other computers connected to network. No more need for dedicated Netflix device, such as PS3, Wii, etc. Low power consumption: Box appear almost sealed and get just barely warm.
It should consume about W during operation. Frequent Firmware updates that all seem to bring new features. The new HVT will support high definition video output up-scaling to i for better picture quality and standard 3.

USB 2. David W. Verified Owner. Bought 1 and had to buy another! Did you? Yes No. Robert L. Overall Review: Freakin' awesome!! I love this thing!! David D. Cons: I wish the remote was a little bigger, but it works fine TIMothy M.
Pros: Super simple to set up Lots of space Works great! Upscales video Cons: none really, you just have to turn your tv volume up louder than usual but that is no big deal. Robert C. The upconvert works fine on my 32 lcd tv Cons: The only problem I can point to is the onboard software is pretty chunky, and a little slow.
Ruben G. Make informed decisions with expert advice. Learn More. Pros: So far after about 1 week of use I have had no problems with the It will play Xvid and Divx avi files with no problems, jpg and mp3 are also not a problem. I mapped it as a drive in Vista and I have full access to it so you can share the on your network, wireless is a little slow but it works. The can also record from an analog device and so far I have transfered some old videotapes to it and they record in MPEG2 with 3 quality settings and the quality is exactly the same as the source.
With the record function if you have a external tuner like a vcr you can even schedule recordings, not sure if the device will power up.. Cons: It's not a con for me but others may find this a con. I can not get the to play MP4,MOV files it could require a specific profile for those formats but so far no luck. Again on the wireless the speed is about 1. But it could be my wireless in the house. It does have a ethernet port for a wired network.
Overall Review: This thing is so new that there will probably be updates for it and it does have a firmware update ability. The 1. There is a little 25mm fan that can draw some heat out. The is made from aluminum. The hard drive can be replaced of course doing so violates the warranty. The remote is small and runs on a CR battery. I know I am forgetting something, overall the does more then what I needed. Hopefully this info will help someone else. Tech support said they will let me know when they have info on problem, but that was over 2 months ago and I haven't heard anything.
Movies hang frequently and you can not press play to resume, you have to stop movie and restart and then find where you left off. One BIG design flaw is you can't turn unit on without remote. Granted you could not use as media server without remote, but if give up using it as a media server you could recoup some of your loss by using it as Network Attached Storage, but you could not turn it on if the batteries are dead or you lose the remote. It has an off button, but no on button, that's dumb.
You could always unplug it! Overall Review: If Argosy ever works out the bugs and fixes the button to allow powering on the device without the remote, this would be a great product.
But the current problems make me sorry I shelled out that kind of money for something borderline usable. Also will not play H files but I knew that going in so I did not subtract a star for that, just somthing to keep in mind if you are wanting to watch your video from a high def camcorder.
Pros: Good price, a lot of function for the price. Specification looks very good, only on paper.
